I’ve had my eye on the Flip MinoHD for a few months now. Forever the tech geek the MinoHD promised high quality output with an Applesque compact design.
After a week or so of playing around, my initial opinions:
- Simple design lives up to the hype
- MP4 file output plays best w/ Mac hardware and software
- I recommend using a tripod to limit a jumpy image
- Plug and play is easy
- Pre-packaged Flip software is very basic
The MinoHD is a fun toy that provides more then adequate output. Coupled with a tripod, Imovie 09 and Garageband I was able create a shareable movie with minimal effort. Will it compare with hi end cameras and more robust editing software? No, and I don’t think it’s designed to. Overall, I’m happy with the MinoHD and I look forward to using it more to document my life’s events. Below is my first attempt capturing with the MinoHD, editing with Imovie / Garageband and hosting with Vimeo.
