My New Charging Station

12.03.08 Posted in home improvement, learning, technology by seanhobs

Moving into a new home has afforded me plenty of opportunities to conjure up new and interesting home projects. First was organizing the garage, then came fixing the lawn and most recently mounting the TV to the wall. Luckily the house was move in ready, so we haven’t had any major projects.  Because I’m no Bob Vila, every small feat around the house is a huge victory, thus deserving of a blog post. So this weekend, influenced by a post on Ikea Hacker, I decided to clean up the wire mess caused by all of our tech toys. This project typically would of taken less then an hour if not for one problem, there was no outlet behind where I wanted to mount the charging station. This required me to install one. Messing with electrical wires and cutting holes into the drywall were both new challenges for me.  After some phone training sessions from my electrician buddy in pburgh and several Google and YouTube research sessions, I was able to run the wire and install the outlet without burning down the house, yet. Here are some pics of the final result.

Hi, do you have any more pictures? I’m really interested in making one of these. I don’t know what kind of hinges to use, any tips will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Martin from Argentina.

    Hi Martin,
The cabinet is actually from Ikea. I tried to find it in the catalog but it must be discontinued. Here is a closeup of the hinges for you.
